Book Review of Blackwater Lake by Maggie James

Matthew Stanyer fears the worst when he reports his parents missing. His father, Joseph Stanyer, has been struggling to cope with his wife Evie, whose dementia is rapidly worsening. When their bodies are found close to Blackwater Lake, a local beauty spot, the inquest rules the deaths as a murder-suicide. A conclusion that's supported by the note Joseph leaves for his son.

Grief-stricken, Matthew begins to clear his parents' house of decades of compulsive hoarding, only to discover the dark enigmas hidden within its walls. Ones that lead Matthew to ask: why did his father choose Blackwater Lake to end his life? What other secrets do its waters conceal?

A short (25,000-words) novella, Blackwater Lake examines one man's determination to uncover his family's troubled past.

*I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review*

Read it. Just go out and get it and read it and then come back and say, "Thanks Joy!" You don't even need to say thank you really.

This mystery novella keeps you on your toes! The plot is well developed and there are quite a few twists, just when you think you know what happened...bam! That's the best thing about mysteries though right? Don't want them to be predictable.

I also really enjoyed how deep these characters got in such a short time. We get to really understand Matthew and not only his past, but why he can't let go of solving the mystery of blackwater lake.

Overall, this story was very, very well written, fast paced and entertaining. If you need to kill a few hours and need a good book, well, here ya go! (I's free on amazon so really what are you waiting for!)

Interview with author Samreen Ahsan

1. I have to did you come up with the idea of Hue Castle?
There are lots of qualities in Myra that are very similar to me. Just like Myra Farrow in the story, I'm also intrigued by the castles and palaces. I also enjoy visiting Medieval buildings and churches. And perhaps I can say that I'd also like to meet a Medieval (handsome) prince one day. Don't we all? :) Despite being married and a mother of two girls, I'm still fascinated by Disney stories.

2. Have you always enjoyed writing? When did you first start writing stories for fun?
I was never a writer. I might be born with the skill but never brushed up my talent till 2012 when I decided I should write a book because suddenly there were characters in my mind who wanted to come out in the world and be written by me. They wanted to be read by the world. So when they were haunting me too much, I decided to write. Yes, the characters haunt you. They don't let you sleep properly unless you write all their stories. Though it sounds like a curse but it's a blessing. You get to meet lots of people in your mind--you go to places you think you might never visit--you do things you think might not be able to do it.

3. Out of all the books you've written, which is your most favorite?
The one I'm currently writing. The second book of [Stolen] Series.

4. What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Never give up. Keep writing. Don't let the characters die in your head. They need to come out. They were born in your mind because they were destined to be written by you.

History, art and literature are my passions. I love digging out information about prophecies, divine miracles and paranormal events that are mentioned in history and holy books, that don’t sound possible in today's modern world.

Since childhood, I have been into reading and writing—and yes, it can’t happen without imagination, which luckily has no boundaries. Dance and music are also pastimes I enjoy, as well as reading romance fiction. I love to travel and explore historical cities.

Book Review of Once Upon A Stolen Time by Samreen Ahsan

All her life, Myra Farrow has been obsessed with medieval castles—and the kings and princes who once inhabited them. Now, wealthy videogame designer Steve Bernard wants her to model for a princess character in his new game. Myra can’t resist his offer, especially when she learns that Steve plans to film inside the mysterious Hue Castle—a cursed, barren, colorless place forbidden to visitors for centuries. But unknown to Myra, her soul is bound to Hue Castle by blood and sorcery. When she enters its doors, she awakens dark powers that will reach through time—stealing her past, torturing her present, and rewriting her future.

Edward Hue, the last of the Hue royal bloodline, has never stood in the sunshine or held a living flower. Cursed from birth to live in darkness and bring death to all he touches, he is at the mercy of his cruel, tyrannical father, who will not rest until he shatters Edward’s soul and makes his son into a diabolical copy of himself. Edward’s one hope is the mysterious woman who haunts his dreams—who will either break his curse and bring him out of the darkness, or destroy him utterly.

For Myra and Edward, past and future collide in a tale of love, obsession, betrayal, and the hope for redemption.

*I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review*

This was one fun read! Myra is a good character to follow and I enjoyed the bouncing back between her and Edward. The idea of Hue castle and it's mysteries was very intriguing. I found this to be a fast, fun read with an awesome ending.

The ending was so great simply because it was not what I expected at all. When I was reading it my mind just kept thinking, "wait a minute...this isn't what's supposed to happen!"

There were some parts of the book I found to be a bit repetitive, but overall I still enjoyed this book a lot. Steve kinda got on my nerves at some parts but that's to be expected too. You can't love every character in a book!

Readers of fantasy, romance and mystery would enjoy this book. Pick up a copy and get going!!

Book Blast for Elite Ghosts plus $50 Amazon GC GIVEAWAY!!

For more than two years they’ve been ghosts. Nothing but names on empty tombstones. Men

and women forced to fade into the background after being pulled from the rubble. Dead Marines

saved from a fate worse than death, but ordered to stand down while their lives disappeared all

around them.

Some knew it could happen if a mission exploded. Double crossed by more than just Red Wolf.

But now is their time to be reborn from the flames of a Phoenix. No longer imprisoned in the

shadows. A half-life between them and their future. To make things right coming back to life is

their only option.

Lithium’s Rescue Excerpt By Sabrina York

It was late. Too late for a man to be standing in an endless field, surrounded by silent,

shadowed tombstones, but Benedict Butler preferred it this way. It seemed fitting that when a

man visited his own grave, he did so in the dead of night.

He shouldn’t have come. He should have known how hard this would hit him. But living with the

guilt, the regret, the pain was hard too. He’d probably hoped that somehow this would help.

Somehow this would ease the pain.

It did not.

Made it worse, in fact.

Made the memories sharper.

Fallen friends were difficult to forget.

He bowed his head and said something that resembled a prayer, though he wasn’t a praying

man. If there was a God in heaven above, he could only hope he was a forgiving sort of god.

It was probably a foolish hope. Some things could not be forgiven.

Since the mission that had taken his friends, peppered his body and face with scars, wreathed

his soul in darkness, Benedict had lived in a shadow world, unconnected to anything real, un-

centered, lost. Only recently had fate given him something to cling to, something to believe in.

Something to fight for.

He sent up another prayer, this, one of gratitude.

He didn’t know who he would be, what he would have become, had Titanium not found him and

pulled him back into the fold. He would sacrifice his life for the team. Indeed, he would gladly do

so if it could expunge even a fraction of his sins.

He would do anything.

The soft buzz of his cell phone pulled him from his gloomy reflection. He checked the number

before he answered. He wasn’t in the mood to chat, but it was his team leader.

“Sir?” A clipped bark.

“Lithium?” Titanium’s low bass rumbled through the speaker.

“Yes, sir?”

Author Interview with Nic Weissman

After reading his book The Wrath of Orb Nic agreed to answer some questions for me! Take a look!

1.      Have you always enjoyed writing? What prompted you to start writing stories?
I have been writing as long as I can remember, but always small things for myself. Only like two years back I decided to start attacking larger projects, even a standard length novel. There is a point where you just feel the need to get the story out of yourself. It is difficult to explain to someone who never had such a feeling.

2.      How did the idea for The Orb of Wrath come about?
It all started with the world. Many years back I spent a lot of time creating a very detailed fantasy world. I included details for more than 700 different cities. Different countries, culture, history, etc. Over the years I thought many times that I should build a story in that setting. And finally I decided to do it.

3.      In your opinion, what's one of the hardest things about being an author?
The promo is really difficult. There are so many options out there that is extremely challenging to get noticed. Even if your work is great and people like it.

4.      What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Self-publishing is a new paradigm; a miracle, even. Any aspiring writer today can (for sure) become a published writer. It was not like that in the past. If you are passionate about writing, just go for it. But you need to know that writing a great book is only half of the work; marketing it is a full time job by itself. So, spend some time beforehand on how you will tackle that piece of the challenge.

Author Bio:
Nic Weissman is an Amazon Bestseller and a fast growing name in Fantasy fiction landscape. His debut novel The Orb of Wrath is collecting great reviews and is available through multiple channels both in ebook and paperback, both in English and Spanish. The novel has been already referred by multiple bloggers like Jack Moreno. Nic is the creator of the saga The Merchant's Destiny and The World of Oris.

Nic was born in 1974 in mystical place where the sea ends. Over the past 16 years, he has lived in 14 different addresses across 3 different continents. He has travelled to 30 countries and speaks 4 languages. As you can imagine, Nic loves travelling.

Book Review for The Orb of Wrath by Nic Weissman

The Orb of Wrath combines fantasy, intrigue and adventure, while transports the reader into a world where almost nothing is what it seems. Plots, counterplots, mysteries, blossoming relationships, disappointments, betrayals, dangers and successes, are combined in this fun cocktail.
Erion is a skilled looter who runs the kingdom of Bor with his "brother" Mithir, performing dangerous commissions for wealthy clients. Mithir helps with his long trained magical abilities. One day, when they are doing one of their assignments, they encounter another group of adventurers, with whom they are forced to cooperate.
The plot runs in the World of Oris which consists of 12 kingdoms and includes elves clans, dangerous monsters, dwarf kings, rich desert emirs, strange beasts, hospital halflings, ferocious orcs, ingenious gnomes, powerful wizards, brave knights, merchants, terrible vampires, etc. Recommended for the permanent library of all fantasy readers.
Do you dare to accompany Erion and his friends in their adventures?

*I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review*

Who doesn't like an epic adventure story?

The world of Bor is a dangerous place and the characters in this book are embarking on a huge mission. This book took a while for me to get into, mainly due to the hopping from character to character and trying to figure out who everyone was. I would say though it is worth pushing through, because it doesn't take long to sort out what is happening and who are hero's are.

There is a lot of weaving of subplots in this story and I enjoyed this because it gave the story more depth. It wasn't just a book about a hero going on a mission, more was going on in the world and we as the reader we privy to it. Any lover of fantasy novels would enjoy this book, it has everything we could want-adventure, danger, a quest, and mystery.

This book is free right now on Amazon! Go ahead and add it to your library!! You can also check it out on Goodreads.

Review Tour for Contract to Web by Holly Bush plus GIVEAWAY!!

1891 . . . Jolene Crawford Crenshaw, heiress and Boston socialite, went from her family home directly to Landonmore upon her marriage, the mansion she shared with her handsome and charismatic husband. She’d never in her life worried in the slightest over anything as crass as the dollars required to maintain that home or the lifestyle she’d been born to. Her extensive yearly wardrobe, the stables and the prime horseflesh within it, even the solid silver forks and knifes that graced her table, were expected and required to maintain the social standing that she’d cultivated over the years. But suddenly she was a widow with little money and just her pride and her secrets to keep her upright.

Max Shelby made his fortune in oil wells and cattle, but lost the love of his life the day his wife died. Now, his happy, carefree daughter needs instruction and guidance as she grows into a young lady and his dream of becoming a Senator from his adopted state of Texas seems out of reach with few political or social connections. The right wife would solve both problems. As it happens, his sister knows of a woman, a recent widow, charming, beautiful and socially astute, but in reduced circumstances, who may want to begin again. Max signed the wedding contract sight unseen.

Will Jolene be able to shed her sorrows, anger and fears to begin anew away from the censure and hidden tragedy that marred her life? Is her new husband, confident, strong and capable Max Shelby, the man, the only man, to see past her masks to find the woman beneath?

“Settle down, everybody,” Zeb shouted over the din. “The boss has an announcement to make.”

Max looked around the room at his staff, more than forty of them, without the men working straight through at the wells. Most were like family to him, and many had sons or brothers or wives working here as well. The room quieted.

“I know most of you are aching to get to the dining room and see what Maria is serving us today,” Max said. “But I wanted to let you know that I have gotten married. My bride . . .”

The room erupted in shouts and yahoos. The women stood to hug him and kiss his cheek, and the men lined up to shake his hand.

“When is the wedding meal to be held?” Maria asked. “I’ve got much to prepare for.”

Max asked for quiet. “This isn’t exactly that type of marriage. Let me tell you . . .”

“What do you mean?” Pete, the head ranch hand, asked. “I didn’t know there were different kinds of marriage! Hey, Maria, what type of marriage do we have?”

“The kind where you do as I tell you to, si amor,” she replied with a saucy swish of her skirts.

Max waited till the laughter died down. “My bride is from Boston. She’ll be arriving this Monday on the train and bringing her maid.”

“How’d you meet her, Boss?” someone asked.

“Boston?” someone else said.

Zeb came up behind him and whispered. “Maybe we didn’t think this all through to the end.”

“When did you go to Boston, Boss?”

“I didn’t go to Boston,” he said.

“Then how’d you meet her?”

Max pulled off his hat and scratched his head. “Well,” he started

Zeb stepped in front of him. “Doesn’t matter how Mr. Shelby met her, and it’s nobody else’s business. Mrs. Shelby is coming here Monday, and, no doubt, this will be a big change for her. Make sure you’re on your best behavior for her arrival,” Zeb said and turned to Maria. “Let’s you and I have a talk about what needs to be done to accommodate both women.” He looked back across the silent room of workers. “Okay. Let’s eat.”

There was a lot to enjoy about this story. Max was by far my favorite character and I liked how he was so patient with Jolene. Their story had a rough beginning but slowly they fall in love. Not without some bumps along the way though! This is a heartwarming romance and I found myself cheering for Max and Jolene waiting, wanting and hoping for them to come together.

This book was also well written and easy to read. The words flowed nicely and before you knew it the chapter was done.  Readers who enjoy romance, especially American history romances would devour this book.
