Making Roots

After talking to my family and friends, and weighing the pros and cons of it all, I've decided to stay in the Louisville area and finish my degree. This wasn't an easy decision, as the draw to move out west is still present, but the practical side of me and the voices of those around me helped me see that staying and finishing my degree will be in my best interest.

Once I made the decision to stay, I started applying for jobs. UPS was the go-to because of their great tuition reimbursement program. I stayed up late one night and filled out an application and was hired the next day! I'm talking to my school and getting things squared away with them so I can hopefully enroll this fall if it's not to late. Got my fasfa done too. I only have about 20 credit hours left until I have that diploma in my hand. I've been working on my degree off and on, full time and part time for 12 years. Being so close to the end now, it just doesn't seem practical to give up. Way to much money invested!

My parents have been great about everything. It's enough to make me cry at their willingness to help me during this time. From using their cars (since I don't have one) and staying with them till I find a place and helping me with school bills- I couldn't ask for better parents.

Life never turns out how you plan. If you would have told my 20 yr old self all the things I'd have to go through in the coming ten years I wouldn't have believed it.  Yet here I am, ready to do what it takes to see this through.  Even with all the bad that has happened, I still am keeping my head up and my eyes forward. Who knows, maybe my 30's will be when I finally take off as an author, but I will be going through them now with a degree in my hand!

Query ideas

First off I'd like to thank everyone who has agreed to be a beta reader for me! If you'd still like to jump in on the action and read my novel, just let me know!
In the meantime, I've been working on my query letter. For those that might not know, a query letter is the first thing you send to a literary agent. It's like the blurb you see on the back of books or the cover flap. If its engaging enough the agent will  request to read more and then hopfully sign you and help you find a publisher. Below are my first two attempts at a query. I personally like the second one better, but I'd like to know what you think! Id both seem flat I'll just keep writing more! Please leave a comment and give me your opinion!
Attempt 1:
Growing up in the foster care system Rochelle thought she wanted a simple mundane life. Until she realized how lonely she really was once she met a few beautiful strangers who hint there might be more to her than she even knows. When Rochelle's past starts to literally follow her, she must decide if facing her past will be worth protecting her future.
Attempt 2:
Her father left her at birth to keep the family secret safe, but when 20 yr old Rochelle is found by others of their kind, a war is started. Growing up in the foster system all Rochelle ever wanted was a plain normal life. After two strangers walk into her life she begins learning the truth of who and what she really is, a tempus viator, or time traveler. With her estranged father hunting for them, Rochelle and her newfound friends must work together to protect their abilities as well as the future of mankind.

Yet another adventure for Joy

Life has thrown me quite a few curveballs so far. I'm still recovering from the latest one. Alas I find myself single again, but with much wisdom gained. I'm glad actually I find myself in this situation. I know so much more about myself and what I want in life and in a future partner. I'm moving back to Oregon and it's beauty on Aug 10th and can't wait to start this adventure again. I can't explain why very well but I just know thats where I need to be.
My goals of writing haven't slowed at all! I have a few friends reading my book and I'd like to find a few more. If you're willing to read my novel and give me your input leave a comment and I'll tell you about it. I might make a post later too that explains what it's about.
